Not in the mood for jousting. These are from a friend. I think I'll make this a regular post. Anyone have a good joke, send it to me and I'll publish it.


One day, a man came home and was greeted by his wife dressed in a very sexy nightie.

"Tie me up," she purred, "and you can do anything you want."

So he tied her up and went golfing.

No blogging today (well, until now). The video driver went on the blink and I 've spent the greater part of the day trying to get the system to hold together long enough so I could change some settings, which allowed the system to function while I downloaded a new driver and repaired the problem.

Finally did only to discover that it's probably the card itself that isn't working. Oh well. I can work at minimum accelaeration for now. A new graphics card is not a priority.

This Land is Our Land

My friend, Elliot/Michael posted a comment to a post entitled, “Those Treasonous Dogs.” I began responding to him (I like his thinking and he is always reasonable), and then decided to make my response a separate post.

Which rights do Liberals still love, Tim? They long ago stopped being
defenders of the First Amendment (which is why I stopped being a liberal).
They never believed in the Second.I don't think Conservatives are all that
great, either. But I think Liberals lost the high ground a long time ago.

First thing to keep in mind, my friend … it was liberal thought that brought forth the constitution.Look it up. Imagine where we would be without those great liberal thinkers, Jefferson, Adams and Adams, Payne, etc.

I think you gave up being a liberal too soon, my friend. This liberal believes in the 2nd amendment, i.e. the right for the people to bear arms, though I have strong reservations about sub-machine guns and bazookas.

I’ve been a hunter, and enjoyed it when I was younger. I have experienced the thrill of the hunt. Truthfully, though, I think the only real hunters are those who use bows. I'm older now. I no longer crave mowing down defenseless creatures for food. There is always the alternative grocery store on every other block.

And as far as the 1st amendment, I think from my writings you'll see I am not a PC liberal. Have we gone too far? Absolutely. But our society tends to do that. It ebbs and it flows. Do you remember the roaring 20s? How about the 60s? My point is look out, the roaring, lost your minds 2010s are just around the corner.

Anyway, having said that, I am proud to be a flaming liberal. While taxes may be a wee high, I am not sorry to pay my fair share and help ensure government functions, roads are smooth and people in need are given a helping hand. In regards to a helping hand: Pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps is a favorite conservative phrase these days. Apply it to Halliburton and its greedy brethren and I’ll listen. A number of conservative bloggers have used this phrase to describe their own lives … how they had to work, blah blah blah. You know what? Boo hoo. Whining is not a liberal state of mind and certainly not mine. It is, however, what I think some conservatives are best at.

I don't believe in TABOR or any of its offspring. To amend the constitution is a whack job. Conservatives are saying they don't trust politicians. Fair enough, there are many to be disgusted with. The answer to that is to get people who truly care about the amity of the people to run for office. We the People! We're not so dumb.

I believe in marriage ... for all! And I don’t believe in wedge issues designed to create attendance on election day, at the expense of innocent citizens who will be affected by mean-spirited resolutions.

I believe in the right of a woman to choose without men interfering in their lives. We disagree sharply here, I know. But liberals have always been able to discuss things amongst themselves ... not so sure of narrow-minded conservatives, though I know a few who seem to have evolved. I know that both liberals and conservatives yearn for the day that abortion occurs so minimally that it doesn’t warrant pitched battles. Can’t we agree on exceptions for rape and incest and then educate our people to think of the consequences before conceiving? I’ve got to believe that some day we’ll succeed.

Believe! That’s what liberals do best. Rather than go backwards using faulty and aging memory cells to those glorious days of old, liberals believe in the present and the future. Liberals believe in people … all of them, regardless of faith, lack of faith, color, race, handicap. We are not a “white mans” club only, allowing only the token more brilliant or outspoken of others to have associate membership.

And one more thing. For all the denigration of the 60s, it was the 60s, the people, who hastened the end of that bastard Vietnam conflict. That there were excesses, no doubt. That the troops who were drafted to fight were treated poorly there and on their return, no doubt. But if the people had not risen and protested as was their RIGHT that conflict would probably have continued being the centerpiece of what it was: the playground of big power politics. It would not have been Nixon and his children, or any of the other supporters of that conflict and their children who would have suffered. It would have been my kids and yours.

Just like today.

Gobbledygook

Calling their arguments “gobbledygook,” a U.S. appeals panel handed the Bush administration their lunch regarding wiretapping of Internet phone calls.

“Your argument makes no sense,” U.S. Circuit Judge Harry T. Edwards told the lawyer for the Federal Communications Commission, Jacob Lewis.


I’m sure we’ll be hearing the familiar refrain about activist judges from the same old suspects in the very near future. This will include a misleading sub-header to an anything but fair and balanced Fox News story.

But who cares. This administration is kaput. Even their so-called true conservatives (the John Birch remnants) are bailing. It would really be quite humorous if the stakes were not so high … like constitutional rights, presidential overreaching of power, abuse of power, etc.

You know they will not go down without a fight and while they fritter away the time, thousands more will die for their misguided whims.

Islam Bad, Us Better ... Ug

At 12:08 in the morning, Jessica McBride must have been just a wee bit tired. Or she just got back from a barfing session. You know, the kind that happens to her when she reads her own writing back to herself.

This time she has come up with a doozy. I knew she was a flaming racist and intolerant prig before, but …well, check out her post on the JournalSentinel editorial about the open house being held at the Islamic Center of Milwaukee. I thought she was shallow before, but this takes the cake.

Let’s see, she’s not going to go because she already knows everything she needs to know about Islam; in some parts of their society women are treated differently than here. Gasp. Yes, that’s true, Jessica. But it’s not the case universally and I doubt it’s the only place where women are considered second-class citizens. How about evangelical Christians and their “woman must submit to man” doctrine. Ya know, hubby knows best.

And a McBride piece wouldn’t be a McBride piece without a nyah nyah section. She says, “Would the JS editorial board ever encourage Muslims to go to a Christian church for a "special opportunity" to get to know us and our ideals?” What?!?

Leaving aside the childishness of that statement, I have a news flash, Jessie-pooh, not all Muslims hate us. And last time I looked, yes, we did attack them, unless those armored units in Baghdad are just an illusion. Many of them don’t like us over there, regardless if you think it was the right thing to do. I’m sure there were many Germans who thought the Fuhrer was right on to invade Poland.

Considering that a real clash of cultures is underway, for the JournalSentinel to suggest and recommend that the “majority” population get to know a little about the people we are supposedly freeing from tyranny doesn’t seem such a bad idea.

I for one will go. I would like to ask why women remain subjugated in parts of Islamic society and I will LISTEN to the answer rather than assume I know all the answers.

Can You Hum a Few Bars?

While I'm in full agreement that people who come to America should learn and sing our national anthem in English, Jacob Weisberg at Slate Magazine has a funny piece on the difficulty that even native born Americans have with our anthem's archaic and convoluted lyrics.

Weisberg also shares info on some of the other unofficial and alternative national anthems floating around. My favorite is Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land."

There are a number of unofficial and alternative national anthems that would
present less of a challenge to Latino immigrants rallying around "Nuestro Himno" a cloying, Latin-pop interpretation of "The Star-Spangled Banner" (and no improvement, incidentally, on the patriotically minded Spanish translation "La Bandera De Las Estrellas," scored by Walter Damrosch and published in 1919). The perennial top candidates are the 1913 version of "America the Beautiful," which was written by a Wellesley English professor named Katharine Lee Bates; Irving Berlin's 1938 version of "God Bless America" which became patriotic theme music in the days after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001; and Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land," which was written in 1940 as a kind of hobo's answer to "God Bless America."

One thing: I have read of all the outrage over the flying of the Mexican flag (I'm guessing it was, there is no Hispanic flag that I know of). This really seems like racist drivel to me. Come on, I've seen the German, Italien, Polish and Greek flags, all being flown at Summerfest. I've seen them flown above restaurants, inside restaurants. I've seen them at churches, outside homes ... everywhere. Aren't these people Americans and how dare they fly the flag of another country?

This country is large enough (I 'm not referring to land mass) to accept these people and figure out an equitable solution to this issue without resorting to racist tactics (Right, Charlie?).

Ha Ha Ha Sensenbrenner for President

This was (ha ha ha) too funny. I can hardly stop laughing (ha ha ha). This guy recommends F. James Sensenbrenner for president (ha ha ha, too much).

Stop it. It hurts.

Actually, Clint and I have had a few conversations (see posts below). While Clint has difficulty staying on topic, his comments are reasonably well done. But Sensenbrenner for prez?

Just an impression ... have you ever noticed that the majority of anonymous comments and comments from sites that have no profiles (rendering them effectively anonymous) are conservative in nature?

A friend sent this to me this morning.

This was actually on TV. The commentators paused and didn't say a word. Arkansas Razorback players Clarke Moore, Brett Goode and Casey Dick need to stop hanging out together ... at least when in uniform.

No Weight Loss Yesterday

Holding at 229. The split pea soup that I made the other day has not contributed to any weight gain. I'm glad I quit smoking, though.

A Tough Question

I love and respect Hispanics, Hispanic culture and the desire many have for a better life. In that regard, Hispanics are no different than the other ethnic groups that have come here in droves.

I don't know how to handle this issue. It does seem to me that some employers share blame. If illegal immigrants were not hired, there would be less who would sneak in across the border.

Can we really send those back that are here now? I don't see how. On the other hand, today's march and job workoff, and the Hispanic anthem that was written will not make current citizens any more agreeable to Hispanic concerns.

There are also groups who are fanning the flames of racism over this issue. Race should be left out of this.

Another Pound

Down to 229. Have lost four pounds since beginning this new diet and exercise regimen. Also, made some delicious split pea soup the other day. The kids won't touch it so it's all mine. All mine I say ... heh heh heh.

Well, the wife has said she'll try it, though I may not let her.

Feeling very evil this morning. After taking the kids to their doctor appointments (for the adoption process), I think I just may scan through some blogs and create some nasty commentary ... heh heh heh.

Day One Done

After a strenuous day moving building a new garden, moving dirt and mulch, and eating right, I have lost 2 1/2 pounds. Down to 230 1/2. I know the poundage will not be shed this quickly ... it was probably water ... but it's a good start.

Too Bad

I will not comment further about Rush (addict) Limbaugh's (denial) drug problems. I'll let him (hypocrite) speak.

Opining About Apparently Nothing

Jessica McBride has a new favorite word. "Apparently" has apparently used up its usefulness. Her new word is "opine."

Opine I love thee, ooak not so much, though owalnut is stouter than obeech ever would.

Ouch. Just thought it was funny.

Weight Loss Statement

It has now been 17 months and change since I quit smoking. I had a pack a day habit for nearly 30 years. With the help of Zyban and having met a new person who was a non-smoker (later to become my wife) I finally kicked the habit.

In the absence of smoking, I did something I never thought I would do ... gained weight. I was formerly a long distance runner ... I once ran the mile in under 4:30. Heck, I weighed 127 pounds my senior year in high school and didn't break the 150 barrier until my twenties.

I now weigh 233 pounds. There was a time I would have rejoiced at that. Trust me, nobody pushes around anyone who weighs 233 pounds, unless of course they weigh more and are belligerent. In any case, the ache on my knees and feet has become intolerable. My body is simply not used to carrying this much weight.

James, at Wigderson Library and Pub, might not recognize me now. He probably remembers the relatively svelte guy he regularly harassed (kidding) at UWM. Of course the hair is gone now as well. Used to have it fairly long.

Anyway, that aside, the time has come to seriously take some action. I will be blogging regularly about losing this weight, in addiiton to my other rants. My goal is to get to 175 pounds. My mission statement is:

I am in the weight loss business. I intend to lose all the weight I gained
after I quit smoking and to lose an additional 15 pounds to reach my ultimate
goal of 175 pounds.

Wish me luck.

Life is Good

The mulch pile in the driveway is getting smaller. I must say that the yard and gardens around the house look good. I also just got done removing a bush from near the front door. It's twin will be removed as soon as I'm done here. Then my wife and I will work at planting some annuals and applying mulch.

It's good to get out and work in the yard. Muscles that I haven't stretched out over the winter were sore last night and will be more so tonight. But it's a good feeling nevertheless. And tomorrow the soreness will be less.

Anyway, anonymous comments are no longer allowed at this blog. The people who come here and comment, even if they use fake names, are okay. At least I can track back and find out something about them ... though I won't go so far as some conservative buffoons have and "call them out." That's just silly. I am considering setting up a list of disallowed commenters from bloggers who don't identify themselves. Maybe not ... maybe on a case by case basis.

I just have more respect from someone who makes comments out in the open, so to speak.

They're Just Plain Lazy

I love conservative thought. Whenever I put up a post they disagree with, they tell me to go do this, go do that, find information for them to refute what I posted.

Guys, it's not my job. Do the legwork yourself.

Besides, I got other things to do. Now, if you want to have a discussion and provide your own refutations, great, I'll go along. I might even agree with you if I think your point is made. But don't expect me to do the work for you.

Why Should Money Have Anything To Do With It

James Wigderson has another Thursday Waukesha Freeman column. As usual it’s persuading. It’s persuaded me to think of another way we can ensure fairness in elections, which is what I believe James is in favor. He says this in his column:

Jay Heck of Common Cause estimates the cost of the governor’s race will be
between $35 million and $40 million, a nice-sized Powerball jackpot. But that
only translates to approximately $9.75 per eligible voter in Wisconsin, less
than what you spend on a pizza. What is your vote worth to you?

My vote is worth quite a lot to me. But its effectiveness has been diminished by lobbyists, special interest organizations and industry. What happened to one person one vote?

I say disallow all contributions, including those from candidates themselves (it seems only the wealthy are able to run for office these days). Instead, have all campaigns financed by money from the peoples' coffers, supplied by equal dollar amount taxation of each individual, not based on worth or lack thereof. My proposal includes no contributions from lobbies, organizations or industry.

Television time could be arranged for candidates and their teams to put together televised arguments to attempt to sway voters. No other attempts to do so on television or radio would be allowed.

Oh hell, I know it would prove nearly impossible to insert effective controls into our elective process. But maybe we could gain a little more control than we have now. But busting loose the contribution levels is not the way to go.

Carrick's Bend, Part Two

My new friend has a new post (and an update on an old one). First the old one. My friend has such a potty mouth. Here's his update to an old post (italics, mine).

UPDATE#2: Man this guy actually is dummer (I think he means dumber.) than a
rock. My point in the title you dumb ass (See, he can spell the word dumb.)
is that with idiots like you (you little Brookfield rich boy trying to be a good
little terrorist loving lefty prick) on the left the Republicans should have 90%
or more of the Senate and House.

Besides channeling Ann Coulter and her bad behavior, it seems to me the point my friend was trying to make is now even more ambiguous. Oh, sorry a big word. The point is hard to discern. Oh, another big word. How’s this…it’s even more difficult to make any sense of the point trying to be made.

And, the reason, me thinks, the Republicans do not have 90% of the Senate or House is because of supporters like you, my friend.

Now on to the most recent post.

My new friend posits that teachers are at fault for children not making it in eighth grade. Here is part of his comment …

It just proves a point I've made several times before. You have to want to learn.

The Sky is Falling

The latest wacky tale from my children, this time from my little five-year old, Abby.


Each spring, the sky turns red. Giant drops of detergent fall from the sky. All this detergent helps the grass and the dolls to grow, but it can make things really large too.

Some places get so much detergent, that rivers drown into the streets. Driving can be tricky when this happens, so some people put special dogs on their cars.

And when the detergent is falling, don't forget your can. Otherwise, your feet might get small if you walk in puddles!

After all the detergent has fallen, the skies begin to swim. If you are lucky, you might see a huge speaker stretched across the sky.

Success Story

To all the righties who take pleasure in knocking down MPS teachers, here is a story of one remembered by a student as having been a positive influence.

I can hear the cacophony already … ha ha ha, just one. Well, in response, that’s shortsighted and crude. Please note in the article (if you are able to read) that the student acknowledges that a positive home environment played a role in her success. That without it, her teacher’s efforts would likely have been for naught.

Teachers can only do so much. There has to be help on the home front.

No Room for Threatening Behavior

All right, someone is getting too carried away. It's one thing to shout at each other and call each other names, and even to suggest someone put a gun in their mouth and pull the trigger. It's quite another to send mean-spirited and threatening e-mails.

Peter DiGaudio, at Texas Holdem Blogger, says that this is exactly what has been happening to him. I don't really like Peter or his politics. Apparently someone else does not like him either. But that is no reason to threaten. It should stop immediately.

As I posed at his site and I will repeat here ... there is no room for that kind of behavior.

We're So Mean

Patrick McIlheran is at it again. He's back claiming the left is so mean. In his most recent blog, he opines about the trouble a Ohio State University librarian got in for suggesting a book for a reading list. Here’s what he wrote:

A day late, though it’s still fresh, I’m led by Rick Esenberg’s blog
to Dad29, who unfolds the trouble a librarian at Ohio State U got in for suggesting a
book, “The Marketing of Evil,” for the reading list for incoming freshmen. The
book suggests that the sexualization of culture is a deliberate marketing tactic
to sell stuff to youths. It has similar derogatory things to say about the
cultivation of campaigns for legalized abortion and gay rights. It's been
praised by culturally traditionalist commentators.

Well, duh. I happen to agree that sex is used as a marketing tactic. This is news? The other stuff is made up. As is typical of McIlheran, he’s afraid to expose who he roots with, so he applies ambiguous names such as “culturally traditionalist commentators.” So who are these shadowy commentators?

I did a little research and found that “The Marketing of Evil” was written by David Kupelian. It seems that David Kupelian is a managing editor of WorldNet Daily. You know, the outfit run by Joseph Farah who has advocated the murder of adulterers and praised the blacklisting of suspected communists in Hollywood in the 1950s.

"It was a good thing. It was the right thing to do at the right time in history.
And, as America finds itself beleaguered in the world against – literally
surrounded by – enemies who seek to destroy it, we cannot allow traitors
privileged status in the entertainment industry."

Also included in the illustrious group of shadowy commentators is Donald Wildmon, leader of the evangelical activist group, American Family Association, which has linked Judaism to criminality and hostility toward Christianity. Wildmon has been denounced by Jewish organizations including the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Congress.

Then there is Rabbi Daniel Lapin, whom NY Times columnist, Frank Rich, has called a “show rabbi” for the Christian right. Lapin actually introduced Jack Abramoff to Tom Delay.

Can't forget D. James Kennedy, a former Arthur Murray dance instructor, and founder of Coral Ridge Ministries. Kennedy has said this: "Our job is to reclaim America for Christ, whatever the cost. As the vice regents of God, we are to exercise godly dominion and influence over our neighborhoods, our schools, our government, our literature and arts, our sports arenas, our entertainment media, our news media, our scientific endeavors -- in short, over every aspect and institution of human society."

Kennedy's a big fan of Roy Moore, former Alabama Supreme Court Justice, who once penned an opinion calling for the state to execute "practicing homosexuals."

Hmmm. Another dark commentator is David Limbaugh, brother of Rush Limbaugh. ‘Nuff said.

Charlie Sykes ... Standing Up for Expediency

Charlie Sykes has a post ridiculing the Doyle administration for saying that tourism will suffer if the anti-gay marriage amendment is passed, when in fact tourism has not really been affected because gay marriage is already illegal.

It does sound kind of dumb.

About as dumb as Charlie Sykes saying he doesn’t know which way he will vote on the amendment, when in fact, gay marriage is already illegal. Which means ... why are we voting at all. A little overkill maybe. This from the guy who likes to say he stands up for what is right.

Twelve White Jurors Not Angry Enough

I am going to give the twelve white jurors in the Frank Jude case the benefit of the doubt. It was a complex case, with seemingly contradictory evidence and, of course, the silence of the cops did not help.

What is perplexing, though, are the comments from so many that it shouldn't matter that the jury was all white.

They're right of course, it shouldn't. But, try telling that to the face of an African-American. Try telling that to the faces of African-Americans who have been witness to lynchings caused by all white mobs. Try telling that to the faces of African-Americans who have been witness to all white juries in the past that ensured guilty verdicts for the innocent.

Just saying that maybe a little sensitivity to what has happened in the past might assuage some of the anger over this verdict.

Just Around the Carricks Bend

Oh goody. Another conservative blogger in need of a timeout. This person's blog is titled "Carrick Bend Thoughts," and there is a post concerning a couple that I wrote. This post shows so little in the way of neat argument that I just have to provide a link for my dear readers ... for a laugh.

First off, the post is titled: "this-is-what-amazes-me-most-about-republicans." Hmmm, no I'm not. Such a silly person.

Anyway, the first post my new friend comments on was written in response to the many "communist Waukesha" posts that some of my conservative blogger brethren put up regarding the election of Dem. Larry Nelson as mayor of Waukesha. My new friend chastises me for using a picture of an entrance to Terezin that has the words "Arbeit Macht Frei" on the archway. This picture was used, my new friend postulates, in complete disregard of the people who suffered there.

Well no. My knowledge of WWII is likely far superior to my new friend's. Additionally, my new friend ignores the fact that communism was (has been?) responsible for just a few million deaths, in similar fashion to the German Reich, so I've been told. In fact, gulags were fashioned in a manner similar to Nazi concentration camps. But I saw the humor intended in the posts of my conservative brethren regarding the disheartening election of Nelson (for them), and James W. and others saw the humor I intended. My new friend is unable to consider that. It's so sad.

And then my new friend thinks I mock Bush's (fake?) concern for children blown up by IEDs. That my new friend is unable to discern the idiocy of Bush's comment is plainly sad (the comment itself was taken from Garry Trudeau's site). That I mock Bush is true. He is responsible for the deaths of thousands, his crocodile tears impress me not one whit.

So, my new friend, post away, and have a good day. You've made mine.

It Was Just a Little Caucasian Lie

In Rush Limbaugh’s world, a little plagiarism here and there is no big deal. Nor is lying, for which Limbaugh is an expert. On his April 12th radio show, Limbaugh basically said that the Washington Post caved in and that the allegations of plagiarism against Ben Domenech were concocted. Of course, Limbaugh conveniently forgot to mention that Domenech has admitted to having done so.

Oh well. Lying is second nature to these guys anyway. So, I guess, what's a little lie amongst friends?

William Sloane Coffin, Jr. died Wednesday, April 12th. Sloane was a former chaplain at Yale who practiced what he preached in the 60s, and marched and protested against the quagmire called “The Vietnam War.”

I remember him vaguely, growing up in the late 60s, early 70s. He proved to the right that protesting the policies of our beloved country was the patriotic thing to do, not to just sit back and blindly follow. He was not afraid of their wrath … he was a true hero.

Hopefully U93 will help remind the cowards and appeasers of places like White Fish Bay and Shorewood what the real evil in the world is. It is a shame we have to call the gutless cowards who voted to cut and run, Americans in the same breath as the Brave people of that flight.

My friend, James, over at Wigderson Library & Pub is a funny man. I mean that sincerely. His posts intended to be humorous never go flat, and the one liners are the best.

He recently posted a comment about a lefty blogger who, I guess, did not find some of the wingnut comments regarding Larry Nelson's surprise victory in the Waukesha mayoral race humorous. For the most part, the comments all have to do with running for your lives, a communist government will soon be installed.

James is at his best with this photo of a new city of Waukesha logo. What James and all the other righties fail to mention was the destruction the other day of the entrance to Waukesha, torn down by the freed inmates and the liberating armies. They're just a little embarrassed. See below.

J-J-J-Jeff Wagner a Ch-ch-ch-cherry Picker

I couldn't help but notice as Jeff Wagner stu-stu-stu-stuttered through a piece on the anti-war referendums, that he used the term "cherry-picked" in reference to the communities that hosted the referendums. It's at least the fifth time I've read or heard that term today. Good to see the talking points memo system is still functioning.

Apparently it's his and the wingnut belief these communites were cherry-picked for the referendums to succeed. Of course, there were 12 communities that did not vote in favor, so I guess that kinda blows that theory.

Has anyone bothered to point out that the righteous rage on the right over the flying of the Mexican flag by some attendees at the pro-immigration protests is coming from the same people who defended the confederate flag as a source of “southern pride” (as opposed to the rallying symbol for slave-owners and their defenders)? They were for taking pride in regional/ethnic differences before they were against it. Seems like a racist double-standard to me, but pretty consistent if you stop taking conservatives at their word.

Poor Baby

Perennially complaining conservative whiner, Peter DiGaudio of Texas Hold 'em Blogger, can dish it out, but can't take it. He complains in comments on Xoff's site that he can't catch a break, and the mean old establishment is against him getting a job. Heck, he even applied for THREE jobs in the 80s, and didn't get hired for any of them, and he's sure that it was because of his skin color.

Now he works at a $7,000 a year job trying to teach inner city kids who don't want to learn (his words). While I could go on and on about a person claiming to be an educator putting down his/her own students as deplorable, I'm more interested in someone working for $7,000 a year in this day and age. Peter, you could make more money delivering papers.

If you take a look at Peter's blogsite, I'm thinking you will notice what I noticed...a lot of anger and it's not very well written. Not well written in the sense he cannot maintain an argument that makes sense. I've posted twice about this here and here.

Anyway, in response to a comment I made that perhaps the reason he is not hired for better jobs is because of his attitude, Peter advises me to get a 9mm, stick it in my mouth and blow my worthless ass away. Peter’s such a meany.

I hear conservatives go on and on about the anger from the left. Pat McIlheran claims it's because lefties are childish and immature, while conservatives are thoughtful and well-mannered, and would never resort to name calling or threats. Ha ha ha.

Pat, meet Peter, a poster child for anger management and the need for timeouts.

Jessica McWhiner

Jessica McBucher is already whipping out the blog posts stating that the Dems had an unfair advantage because they violated the anti-partisan aspect of the mayoral race in Waukesha. How did they do this? The Waukesha County Democratic Party sent out a memo advising members to do visibility demonstrations the day of the election.

Oh my gosh, Jessica. The horror.

Of course, the irony is that Jessica completely neglects to mention that Ann Nischke proudly proclaimed her Republicanhood and support of Bride of Tabor (a Republican-backed initiative), and that Republican former Gov. Tommy Thompson and Republican F(at). James Sensenbrenner campaigned for Dan Vrakas for Waukesha County board exec.

She saves the funniest for last. She has protested long-windedly and hard against the anti-war referendums in the state. She even resorted to Joe McCarthy tactics and claimed they were set up by communist front groups, notwithstanding there are numerous stories of people who felt so strongly that they pushed for these referendums on their own, without any outside help, and succeeded in getting them on ballots. Anyway, Jessica claims victory by pointing out that if you remove the votes from Shorewood, Madison and La Crosse, voters by a solid majority voted against the referendums.

Uh, I see. Is that the new McBucher and Republican strategy? In this November’s elections, the defeat of Republican-backed candidates will be nullified because the votes of liberals don’t count?

We The People Defend This Nation

I get tired of responding to these clowns. But this was so blatantly sophomoric that I couldn’t pass it up. This from "Alicia" commenting on an anti-referendum post at Wigderson Library & Pub.

It's an emotional issue, and fear has a way of clouding sound judgment.If it
weren't for our history of troops defending our liberties,and our ideals,we may
not have had the luxury of holding a public referendum/elections/ and have
freedom of speech. Are these people who are anti-war also pro-Saddam Hussein
(and the likes of him? Our country has chosen to take a brave stand. The easier
path is to stand for nothing/do nothing then criticize the leadership who is
actually trying to achieve goals.

Alicia, which tyranny do you come from? Last time I looked, “we the people” were the protectors of our liberties and ideals. When did we give up that right and allow tyranny to triumph.

I am insulted that you seem to think that holding public referendums, elections and practicing freedom of speech is a luxury.

IT IS A DUTY.

It is insulting for you to denigrate those who are doing their duty and are taking a stand for what they believe is the right course for this country, while you complacently enjoy the fruits of luxury.

I do not agree with you that our country took a brave stand in Iraq. I believe we are in the wrong in Iraq. I believe that we are the aggressor in Iraq. No one participating in these referendums is pro-Hussein…we should have took him out in the first gulf war, but George’s daddy’s Saudi friends advised against it then. Who is really looking out for our best interests, Alicia, certainly you don’t believe that the Saudis are?

No, Alicia, the easiest path is to do nothing, which is the path you have chosen. You have chosen to turn your back on civic duty and you have turned your back on the troops, our fellow citizens. That's right, Alicia, the troops are the same as me and those citizens standing up with the anti-war referendums: citizens.

They Need Serious Help

Tree hugging – it is somehow bad to hug a tree now and then. I’ve climbed trees when I was a kid and when I got too high, I hugged that tree for dear life. I felt sad when we had to cut the apple tree in the backyard down. It had provided apples for many years and contributed to numerous apple dishes. It provided shade. It provided food for animals who would visit our backyard. Hugging a tree is not such a bad thing, but Patrick McIlheran and conservatives would have you think so.

Anti-war – it is somehow bad to be against war. No one I know likes war. The military only fights war as a last resort. War causes death. Lots of it. The opposite of anti-war is, I guess to be for war. Is this really what Patrick McIlheran and conservatives want? That says something about their morals or lack thereof.

Peacenik – it is somehow bad to be for peace. See above.

Baseball and Being White

A busy weekend spent with friends talking baseball primarlily, but also some politics, lots of music, what's going on with families, who's died...all done with beer and mohitos. Sadly, an acquaintance of ours from high school days passed away. Al LaLeike was a good-hearted guy. It was always a joy to see him again.

I think I improved my chances to contend for the Little Nine title again this year. The first order of business was a trade to J. I traded Dontrelle Willis, Miguel Cabrera, Felipe Lopez and my second round pick for Todd Helton, Grady Sizemore and the top pick in the draft.

Not satisfied, I turned around and traded the top pick in the draft and Grady Sizemore for Ricky Weeks and Vernon Wells.

It remains to be seen whether any of these moves will help.


One thing on "white advantage" a topic of interest in the right wing of the Cheddarsphere. My gosh you people are twisted. It's been a little over 40 years since the Civil Rights Act and already you're complaining. Oh my, your "white disadvantage" has been whittled away a bit (I know you're saying there isn't one, but it's what you sound like).

Got news for you blockheads, we as a nation have a long way to go before centuries of advantage are evened or wiped out. Smackdown: Redux

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. Peter DiGuadio at Texas Hold'em Blogger thinks that Sean Hannity really laid a good one into Alec Baldwin while appearing on WABC Radio, hosted by Brian Whitman. The thrashing was so severe, he claims, that this was the reason Baldwin stormed out of the studio.

Well, things got a little too personal when Mark Levin asked why Baldwin's wife was so pissed off, prompting Baldwin to leave. Otherwise, I think Baldwin gave as good as he received. And, of course, once again, he was set up. Conservatives are the big cowards.

But this is typical behavior for Hannity (who is as boorish as it comes), Levin, DiGuadio and most right wingers. Well, here's one lefty who can swing with the best...Hey Sean, are you still boinking man-woman, Ann Coulter, or haven't you figured you have to approach her from behind?

Howard Kallogian, a Republican candidate in the CA-50 special election, posted this picture, which he claims he took in Bahgdad:














He argues the picture is proof that Iraq is 'calm' and 'stable' contrary to press reports.

A few posters doubted this statement. One noted that the women were wearing western clothing, couples were holding hands and signs were in roman script.

Ah ha. It's discovered that the picture is actually of the Istanbul suburb of Bakirkoy...Turkey, not Iraq.

Patrick McIlheran has claimed he wants to promote civil discourse between left and right, but then he insults the people who are involved in the anti-war referendums by implying they somehow do not support the troops.

If you aren’t in a town holding a referendum but want to do something for our
soldiers anyhow, you can check America Supports You, a site run by the
Department of Defense to let people cheer on the soldiers.

Seems to me that the people holding these referendums to get our troops HOME, support them more than McIlheran who simply wants to cheer them on. “Go guys go, sorry you lost your big toe.”

And then, he has another piece on tolerance in San Francisco. The article he links to describes the efforts of Ron Luce, leader of a group of 25,000 Christian Evangelicals, who came to San Francisco to combat the “virtue terrorism" of popular culture.” McIlheran displays his hypocrisy by failing to note that the group involved, which is led by Ron Luce, has been praised by Rev. Jerry Falwell and Fox News commentator Sean Hannity (well known tolerant guys), and that much of the statistical backing for the horrors Luce claims comes from TV is provided by a group that is funded by the hyper-conservative and ultra-tolerant Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundations.

The "fair and balanced" McIlheran cannot get his facts straight either. Jessica McBucher is not a journalism prof as he states, she is a lecturer. Big difference.

Afghan Court Drops Case Against Christian Because of Conservative Bloggers

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- An Afghan court on Sunday dismissed a case against a man who converted from Islam to Christianity because of a lack of evidence and because of the efforts of conservative bloggers back in the U.S., officials said.

The announcement came as U.S.-backed President Hamid Karzai faced mounting pressure from conservative bloggers such as Texas Hold’em Blogger, spottedhorse2 and Boots and Sabers to free Abdul Rahman, a move that risked angering Muslim clerics here and those bloggers who threatened to write in capital letters (a tactic known in blogging circles as yelling).

An official closely involved with the case told The Associated Press that it had been returned to the prosecutors for more investigation, but that in the meantime, Rahman would be released.

"The court dismissed today the case against Abdul Rahman for a lack of information, for a lot of legal gaps in the case and because of the pressure from bloggers in the states," the official said Sunday, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and because if he did, bloggers would be able to track his e-mail address and call him out.

In another decision today, Islamic clerics have decided to call off further demonstrations against Denmark because of the calls of support for that little country from conservative bloggers.

A point was made that the actions by the bloggers in support of Rahman and for Denmark were really insignificant, much like the anti-war referendums that they disdain, but conservative bloggers refused to acknowledge the hypocrisy.

However, Afghan tribesmen did profess a quiet respect for the website Boots and Sabers, given their fondness for swords and horseback riding.

Jessica McBucher writes from her blogsite (that doesn't allow comments) and attacks Eugene Kane because he doesn't allow comments on his blog. "Welcome to Kane World," she says, "where up is down and down is up."

And then there is McBucher World, where a conspiracy is always just around the corner, Willie Horton is her husband's best friend and she still doesn't allow comments on her blog ... apparently.

A Republican challenger to Sen. Hillary Clinton has apparently been reading Jessica McBucher’s blogspot. Former Reagan-era Pentagon official Kathleen "KT" McFarland told a group of Republican activists: "Hillary Clinton is really worried about me, and is so worried, in fact, that she had helicopters flying over my house in Southampton today taking pictures."

Her comments were confirmed by Suffolk County Republican chairman Harry Withers.

It was rumored that she then began to list a number of fringe “communist” groups who have been spying on her as well. She said that if President Bush were to listen in on their telephone conversations, her fears would be confirmed.

Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson denied any spying was going on. "We at the Hillary campaign wish Ms. McFarland the best and hope she gets the rest she needs," he said. He also said, "Some campaigns hand out campaign buttons; the McFarland campaign hands out tinfoil hats with antennas."

We here at “The Other Side” recommend she stop feeding her conspiracy theories by reading McBucher’s blog.

The latest news from McBucher is that failure to use signal lights when changing lanes on the freeway is actually code that communist groups use to help them infiltrate Friday night fish fries.

When Does It End

A 15-year-old boy was severely beaten by four to five males about 1:50 p.m. near a bus stop at 1st and Center Sts., according to Milwaukee police.The youth died about 3 p.m., police said. The victim was a seventh-grader at Malcolm X Academy, according to Phil Harris, a Milwaukee Public Schools spokesman.

James Spader Stands Up for America

Alan Shore's closing argument

Alan Shore: When the weapons of mass destruction thing turned out to be not true, I expected the American people to rise up. Ha! They didn't.

Then, when the Abu Ghraib torture thing surfaced and it was revealed that our government participated in rendition, a practice where we kidnap people and turn them over to regimes who specialize in torture, I was sure then the American people would be heard from. We stood mute.

Then came the news that we jailed thousands of so-called terrorists suspects, locked them up without the right to a trial or even the right to confront their accusers. Certainly, we would never stand for that. We did.

And now, it's been discovered the executive branch has been conducting massive, illegal, domestic surveillance on its own citizens. You and me. And I at least consoled myself that finally, finally the American people will have had enough. Evidentially, we haven't.

In fact, if the people of this country have spoken, the message is we're okay with it all. Torture, warrantless search and seizure, illegal wiretappings, prison without a fair trial - or any trial, war on false pretenses. We, as a citizenry, are apparently not offended.

There are no demonstrations on college campuses. In fact, there's no clear indication that young people seem to notice.

Well, Melissa Hughes noticed. Now, you might think, instead of withholding her taxes, she could have protested the old fashioned way. Made a placard and demonstrated at a Presidential or Vice-Presidential appearance, but we've lost the right to that as well. The Secret Service can now declare free speech zones to contain, control and, in effect, criminalize protest.

Stop for a second and try to fathom that.

At a presidential rally, parade or appearance, if you have on a supportive t-shirt, you can be there. If you are wearing or carrying something in protest, you can be removed.

This, in the United States of America. This in the United States of America. Is Melissa Hughes the only one embarrassed?

*Alan sits down abruptly in the witness chair next to the judge*

Judge Robert Sanders: Mr. Shore. That's a chair for witnesses only.

Alan: Really long speeches make me so tired sometimes.

Judge Sanders: Please get out of the chair.

Alan: Actually, I'm sick and tired.

Judge Sanders: Get out of the chair!

Alan: And what I'm most sick and tired of is how every time somebody disagrees with how the government is running things, he or she is labeled unAmerican.

U.S. Attorney Jonathan Shapiro: Evidentally, it's speech time.

Alan: And speech in this country is free, you hack! Free for me, free for you. Free for Melissa Hughes to stand up to her government and say "Stick it"!

Alan: I object to government abusing its power to squash the constitutional freedoms of its citizenry. And, God forbid, anybody challenge it. They're smeared as being a heretic. Melissa Hughes is an American. Melissa Hughes is an American. Melissa Hughes is an American!

Judge Sanders: Mr. Shore. Unless you have anything new and fresh to say, please sit down. You've breached the decorum of my courtroom with all this hooting.

Alan: Last night, I went to bed with a book. Not as much fun as a 29 year old, but the book contained a speech by Adlai Stevenson. The year was 1952. He said, "The tragedy of our day is the climate of fear in which we live and fear breeds repression. Too often, sinister threats to the Bill of Rights, to freedom of the mind are concealed under the patriotic cloak of anti-Communism."

Today, it's the cloak of anti-terrorism. Stevenson also remarked, "It's far easier to fight for principles than to live up to them."

I know we are all afraid, but the Bill of Rights - we have to live up to that. We simply must.

That's all Melissa Hughes was trying to say. She was speaking for you. I would ask you now to go back to that room and speak for her.

She's Still Yours, Conservative Friends

Ann Coulter, the darling of the right-wing nuts and of Patrick McIlheran (he calls her witty in the same mean way as Maureen Dowd -- whatever) has this column titled "Revenge of the Queers" at WorldNetDaily. In her column she welcomes Claude Allen, an African-American top administration official for 4 ½ years to her world, the world of those hated by the New York Times.

A couple of things: The New York Times is not the only institution that hates Ann Coulter … just one of many.

And this is funny, she says: “I'm sorry it took a tough period in Allen's life for the New York Times to feature him under a banner headline on its front page, but all in all, I'm glad to finally know about Claude Allen. I'm proud to have this great fellow sinner in our party.”

A tough period? He was caught (well, accused of…) stealing!

It’s hilarious. Not even shoplifting can change the attitude of conservatives toward one of there own. The party of crooks has added another.

Jessica, the 50s Are Over

Poor, poor Jessica McBucher, wife of mud-slinging and offensive human being, Paul Bucher. She just doesn't get it. She says this about a few posts that exposed her far right-wing leanings:

Apparently, some on the Left feel that it's inappropriate to expose the actual rhetoric and affiliations behind the "peace" groups behind the war referendums and Cindy Sheehan. They want to intimidate people into silence through their typical namecalling because they know that the average individual will reject the extremism if it's exposed. I simply reprinted what these groups have said and discussed who they admittedly are. But certain far-left bloggers think it's somehow "McCarthyism" to write about what these groups say and who they align with. These groups aren't embarrassed to be affiliated with Communists. They are quite vocal about it and proud of it! Keep trying guys. Like Paul says, it's the equivalent of getting lectured by inmates in the jail. So, thanks! (Oh, and the Lenin flag was for you.)

Ooh, that hurts. Last I heard, conservatives were crowing about the fall of Communism. It can't be that big of a threat anymore and also, last I knew, being a Communist in this country is not illegal.

In my original post, I simply pointed out that her information regarding these groups came from a former self-proclaimed Marxist who is now one of the worst of the mud-slinging right-wingers, David Horowitz. So, who to believe?

But I guess it's all right to sling mud, just not to receive it. Regarding your comment about inmates, Paulie boy should know, he's at their level.

The Leaves are Falling from the Shrub

At his news conference today, President Bush called the censure resolution “needless partisanship.” Bush challenged Democrats to go into the November midterm elections in opposition to eavesdropping on suspected terrorists. “They ought to stand up and say, ‘The tools we’re using to protect the American people should not be used,”’ Bush said.

What a bastard! No one is saying he can't use the tools available to protect Americans. What we are saying is: Use the tools in a legal manner.

Who Excises Jessica?

Jessica McBucher has a banal piece (among many) about the anti-war referendums sweeping the country, that Paul Soglin correctly labels as “red-baiting.”

As usual, McBucher blames the media for not doing enough to inform people about these referendums. Umm, well ... My only question is, if you don’t deny there are average and well-meaning Wisconsinites involved in the push for referendums, then what’s your point. Are you saying these people are not intelligent enough to make their own decisions on what groups to join, and who to protest with if this is what they choose.

Hmmm? Are you trying to say that these people are not as smart as you because, gasp, they don’t believe the same nonsense as you.

You are just a Joe McCarthy wannabe in a skirt. And by the way, you managed to excise the name of the leader of the group you use as a source for your innuendos. His name is David Horowitz, an extreme right-wing apologist who has said:

Regarding Cindy Sheehan: "It's very hard to have respect for a woman who
exploits the death of her own son and doesn't respect her own son's life. She
portrays him as an idiot."

Regarding the late Peter Jennings: "Peter Jennings is dead, may he rest in
peace. Lest we forget, however, while he was alive Peter Jennings did
considerable damage to the cause of civilization and human decency by his
sympathy for Jew-hating terrorists and their supporters."

Regarding Democrats in general: Democrats, media are "getting Americans
killed in Iraq ... because of their pathological hatred of George [W.] Bush.

David Horowitz proudly proclaims that he is an ex-Marxist, implying, I guess, that this makes him an expert. To me, the only thing he is an expert at is an inability to make up his mind.

As for his last comment, funny, I thought bombs and bullets were killing our soldiers … as well as George Bush. He’s the one who sent them there under false pretenses.

So Jessica, good source there. Thanks again for a laugh.

There's something to be said for that. Right-wing bloggers James Wigderson, Owen Robinson, Rick Esenberg and Dean Mundy all have columns in local newspapers ... I hope they're getting paid. I know of no local progressive bloggers with columns. In any case, I've no doubt that others would like to be heard regularly as well.

I don't. I have a degree in journalism, but soured on it many years ago. I would not mind someday writing that elusive fiction novel ... it will happen ... but in the meanwhile this is fine.

I wonder if it isn't so much being in print, however, but being read. I tell myself that it makes no difference that there are few comments made on my site. The site is relatively new and I am gaining links from other sites slowly and surely (more slowly). But then, I do look every day to see if comments have been made.

That I have managed to continue this for over two months, though, is pretty exciting. And, I have had e-mail conversations with some interesting people, and with one complete moron. It's after exchanging communications with this idiot for a couple days that my faith in mankind was restored to an extent. I had become quite cynical. After my encounter with this piece of horse dung, nothing looked quite as bad as it did.

Oh, did I mention, it feels good to vent publicly too. Because, in a sense, these blogs are the public squares of old. I feel the power when I type and press the "publish" button ... in much the same way, I imagine, that orators of the past felt when climbing up on their soapbox and heads turned to listen.

Revolutions were begun by people like that. Be proud bloggers ... we are revolutionary in our own way. Just don't get too carried away by self-importance. You know who you are.

At Ease

This letter from Bill Frist appears at DailyKos. I won't reprint the entire letter, but one portion of it is very funny (c-below) ... Frist's response to (purported memo) saying that Democrats should use military settings as backdrops for speeches and such.

In case Senate Democrats do not know, it is illegal to hold political events at
military bases. Not to mention despicable to use the military and their
families in this way.

No kidding Dr. Longe Range Diagnosis. But ... hmmm ... when was the last time that Bush and Cheney were not seen speaking in front of a military audience that was being used as backdrop for their speech?

Then, Frist says:

If the Democrats wanted to truly help our troops they wouldn't advocate
cutting-and-running from Iraq, they wouldn't call for a censure vote of
President Bush and they wouldn't ingratiate themselves with the Michael Moore
wing of their own Party.

Yeah, and maybe you can get your personal TV station, Faux News, to quit trotting out the Ann Coulter wing of your party.

Put a Sock In It

I always think it funny that conservatives and conservative bloggers like to complain that the MSM never prints stories about items imporant to conservatives and conservative bloggers. And if they do, it is never enough.

Did it ever occur to them that maybe, just maybe, they're only important in their own minds. The MSM is not required to report on every single story. The placement of a story and it's importance for their publication is their decision.

Conservatives and conservative bloggers spend more time complaining about the MSM in one day than the MSM does covering their antics in one entire year. Duh...there's a reason. You're no big deal.

Are They from the NFL or the NBA

Thirty-six have been accused of spousal abuse.

Seven have been arrested for fraud.

Nineteen have been accused of writing bad checks.

One hundred and seventeen have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least two businesses.

Three have done time for assault.

Seventy-one cannot get a credit card due to bad credit.

Fourteen have been arrested on drug-related charges.

Eight have been arrested for shoplifting.

Twenty-one currently are defendants in lawsuits.

Eighty-four have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year.

Can you guess which organization this is?


It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.

The same group of idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

Feingold Still the One

E. J. Dionne, Jr. of the Washington Post writers group tackles the issue of Senator Russ Feingold's censure move of the President. The piece is a good one and the more I look at Feingold's move, the more I wish that there had been coordinated effort behind this. Of course, the Democratic leadership has been in cut and run mode for so many years that I doubt anything would have come of that.

The difference in this case, for me in hindsight, is there might have been a better moment to unleash this bomb on the lying and law-breaking President. As Dionne says:

But at a moment when Democrats have Bush on the run, Feingold's proposal was a
tad inconvenient, a conversation-changer at a moment when Feingold's colleagues liked the way the conversation was going just fine.

Fair enough. Still, I am going to support Feingold because he is one of only a few principled politicians and he is not afraid to speak his mind and take the tough stance ... unlike his cowardly partners and the braying masses on the other side of the aisle.

But the Dems as a minority party are going to have to start making some positive moves or the Republicans will walk all over them again in the 2006 elections. Dionne says:

Here's the problem: Feingold and the activists are right that Democrats
can't just take a pass on the wiretapping issue because Bush's legal claims are
so suspect -- even to many in his own party. The opposition's job is to raise
alarms over potential abuses of presidential power.

But Democrats, unlike Republicans, have yet to develop a healthy relationship between activists willing to test and expand the conventional limits on political debate and the politicians who have to calculate what works in creating an electoral majority.

For two decades, Republicans have used their idealists, their ideologues and their loudmouths to push the boundaries of discussion to the right. In the best of all worlds, Feingold's strong stand would redefine what's "moderate" and make clear that those challenging the legality of the wiretapping are neither extreme nor soft on terror.

Give the Republicans credit, their discipline is to be admired. But it can also be their weakness. Jackboot displays are eventually frowned upon by the American public.

Don't Touch That

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of sexually transmitted disease. The disease is contracted through dangerous high-risk behavior. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim and pronounced "gonna re-elect him." Many victims contracted it in 2004, after having been screwed for the past four years. Naturalists and epidemiologists are amazed at how this destructive disease originated only a few years ago from a bush in Texas.

Even More Clueless on the Right

My erstwhile buddy, Chris at spotted horse, has a thing or two to say about Russ Feingold, none very appetizing. Chris and his goon friends are happy to use foul language or insulting names to describe Feingold or other politicians/regular people they disagree with, but when someone says something that even remotely seems to slander someone they support (very remotely) then "Oh my gosh look how terrible the left is."

Chris, his full title is: Senator Russ Feingold. He has more class in one finger than you will ever be able to acquire in your lifetime.

It's been suggested by many right-wingers that disagreement with the president after 9-11 was partisan.

If this is true, then why isn't knee-jerk acquiescence every bit as partisan, and every bit as dangerous?

Feingold No McCarthy

Right wingers still do not get it. Their new spin in the surveillance wars is whether Bush had the authority as commander in chief to order the NSA to copnduct surveillance, without going through the FISA motions. Their answer being yes, of course.

Senator Feingold has simply pointed out that 1) It's illegal. The President is not above the law (remember Nixon), and 2) If this is allowed to become precedent, what happens in the future when law is again ignored.

Our founding fathers would be aghast at the right's willingness to acquiesce to everything this administration wants.

Give away some of my rights to feel safer, you betcha they bray in unision. Eventually there will be none.

Feingold has been the only person to stand up to the Bush dictatorship...his fellow Dems are cowards.

It's weird. I find myself in agreement with Charlie Sykes. There needs to be an investigation and ultimately, Lee Holloway has got to go ... hopefully to jail.

Truth is, I find him as disreputable as Scooter Jensen and Chuck Chvala. Maybe the three of them can work on license plates together someday.

It's getting old. Rightie bloggers are adding their tears to the recent rains and are flooding our streets with their lamentations for Scooter Jensen's family. Apparently Chuck Chvala's family needed no tears.

Conservative bloggers are oozing tears over poor Mr. Scotty Jensen's guilty verdict. This despite the fact he was found guilty of three felonies by a jury of his peers...fellow citizens. If these bloggers were alive in 1944, I'll bet they would have lamented the death of Mussolini.

Yeah, It Will Get Ugly

Peter DiGaudio at Texas Hold ‘em Blogger worries that the homosexual marriage debate could get ugly. Huh? What planet have you been residing on, Peter? The debate regarding homosexuality, in general, has been ugly for decades and most of the vitriol has been targeted toward homosexuals. This is news for you?

Besides being clueless, Peter is certain that the statistic claiming that 10 percent of the population is homosexual is a bald-faced lie. More like one or two percent he opines. Peter must have information that we other, mere mortals, do not have access to. Having said that, rather than be disingenuous like Peter, I’ll simply say that the answer is virtually unanswerable for many reasons. But then, does it really matter?

And sorry, buster, the only people claiming that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice are the nutbags on the right…including guess who. But then, I’ve forgotten, Peter knows all and Peter knows best. Not being homosexual, I don’t know the reason(s) for being homosexual. I do know, though, that it is not something you just decide to do one day. Fact is, the only people I know who are trying to have it both ways are conservatives.

Peter goes on to say that he can’t imagine Abraham Lincoln lining up with the homosexual movement. Considering that Abe would have preferred the status quo of slave vs. free states rather than go to war, and the only reason the Emancipation Proclamation was written was for the sake of political expediency, then Peter’s hypothesis about Lincoln is just so much hot air.

Peter whines that people are being labeled "bigots" for supporting the amendment. Boo hoo. Later in his own piece, Peter uses the terms “feminazi,” “militant homosexual movement,” and “black-robed federal mullah.” Can you spell hypocrite, Peter?

My favorite, though, is when Peter states that what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedroom doesn’t concern or bother him. Then he complains that being told to embrace, celebrate or even sanction their right to privacy…well, he draws the line there. Hmmm. What was your statement about not being able to have it both ways? It either concerns you or it doesn’t, Peter. Make up your mind.

To finish his piece, Peter laments about how awful the left is and warns us that people like himself may vote for the amendment if we don’t start being nice. Screw that. Your piece has already identified you as pro-amendment and anti-constitution. So what’s the difference?
