Gun Nuts Are Weird

Gun nuts are … well, nuts. I’ve no problem with 2nd Amendment rights, but have always been against the ownership of assault rifles. I see no reason for them. One of their own criticizes the use of these and he is set upon by the NRA … like a pack of rabid dogs.

SEATTLE - Modern hunters rarely become more famous than Jim Zumbo. A mustachioed, barrel-chested outdoors entrepreneur who lives in a log cabin near Yellowstone National Park, he has spent much of his life writing for prominent outdoors magazines, delivering lectures across the country and starring in cable TV shows about big-game hunting in the West.

Zumbo's fame, however, has turned to black-bordered infamy within America's gun culture -- and his multimedia success has come undone. It all happened in the past week, after he publicly criticized the use of military-style assault rifles by hunters, especially those gunning for prairie dogs.

Zumbo doesn't understand the 2A, AND he had fact-problems.

For example, the semi-auto AK47 fires a .308 (just like a Winchester .308) and fires just as FAST as a Win .308.

It's a helluvalot cheaper than a Win.308, too.

(There's a reason for that. It's not nearly as accurate.)

So while it's accurate to refer to the weapon as an "assault" weapon, it is equally accurate to refer to it as a "hunting" weapons.

But the larger point: the 2A is not designed to protect duck-hunters. It is designed to put the fear of God into Government.

Works reasonably well, too.

Maybe he didn't understand the difference, but that's not the point. The point is the NRA over- reacted, which is also the reason that so many are against conceal carry, ironically. It's the fact that no matter the training, someone will over-react.

You may feel secure in the fact that you would not use a weapon, unless absolutely necessary. However, that you would feel secure that thousands of others share your self-restraint is truly frightening.

Reagrding fear ...

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. -- Anne Frank

Funny how you choose a quote from someone who was murdered by a tyrannical government.

Funny how you cowardly hide behind anonymity when you comment.
